Nordic Walking UK weekend in the picturesque Tal-y-llyn Mid Wales with Coreconcept Mid Derbyshire Nordic Walking

Thursday 6thth September – Sunday 9th 2018

Join us for our 8th annual Autumn Nordic Walking trip with Coreconcept Mid Derbyshire Nordic Walking.  Tal-y-llyn Lake is a 220-acre ribbon lake situated north-east of Tywyn and north of Machynlleth at the foot of Cadair Idris (The second highest mountain in Wales) in Southern Snowdonia. The River Dysynni flows from the lake through the village of Abergynolwyn to the sea north of Tywyn on the Mid Wales coast near Tonfanau. It is one of the most photogenic valleys in all of Wales. The Tal-y-llyn lake is surrounded by steep heather clad hills from which water cascades down into the fast-flowing river Dysynni. Although the lake stretches out a mile and a quarter, it is only 3 metres in depth and its vast watery expanse mirroring the sky above makes it a photographers’ paradise.

The lake is a short drive away to The Dyfi Valley which opens wide as it approaches the Cardigan Bay Coast and ends in sandy beaches and dunes. It cradles the westerly spur of Powys, Ceredigion north of Aberystwyth, and the southern rim of Snowdonia National Park. The area around the river Dyfi is a special place to live, work and to visit – special for its people, its culture and its outstanding environment. It hosts some of the finest examples of special landscapes and wildlife areas in Europe with much of the estuary area recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Welsh is the first language for many in the Dyfi Valley and you’ll often hear it spoken – with a friendly switch to English when necessary. Signs and posters are usually bilingual, or English only. The place names in Wales often describe the landscape. For example, the town of Aberdyfi – Aber means ‘river mouth’, Dyfi is the name of the river that flows through the valley.

A brief insight into our Nordic Walking weekend

If you are familiar with our format for these trips it will work on the same basis of 3 Nordic Walks with a ‘welcome’ early evening walk on arrival. We have already outlined our walks for this trip and will provide further information once we’ve established the final details nearer the time. The walks will be based on the usual format of 2 days walking a distance of approximately 8 miles (subject to appropriate walks) and one half day walk on Sunday.  Our Nordic Walks will take us around this stunning location and slightly further afield to truly discover the beauty of this area.

We have decided on this area due to its beautiful tranquil location and availability of the hotel. We have secured the Gwesty Tynycornel Hotel and have all rooms on hold for us for three weeks only until February 16th 2018. I would advise to book asap. To secure your room book by phone and ask to speak to Tania (head receptionist) so the owners know you are booking with us. Please mention Coreconcept Nordic Walking group as the rooms are listed under that name. They will also offer you a range of rooms to choose from plus the option to pay in full now with a discount or a flexi booking with a cancellation refund. There are three types of rooms available ranging from small doubles (some with patios), deluxe doubles, family room, many with lake views and singles are available with a supplement.  Plus, four more rooms are currently being upgraded in the main hotel

If this hotel gets fully booked, we do have an option of a very good local B&B within walking distance.

Or, if this hotel is not within your budget we can help you source alternative accommodation. Please note though that if you wish to stay in the town of Dolgellau it is a 15 minute drive, Aberdyfi (Aberdovey) a 25 minute drive or Tywyn an 18 minute drive.
